SALSA-HOLICS are being invited to take part in a local heat of a national dancing competition.
The Blackburn Dance and Performing Arts Centre in Eanam Wharf will host the North West heat of the British Salsa Championships on September 4.
Salsa is a sexy dance from Latin America which is becoming increasingly popular in Britain.
The contest, which starts at 8pm, is open to dancers of all abilities and offers the chance to win a place in the British final in London on September 23. The winners of that will take part in the world championships in Miami.
Jayne Eaton, principal of the centre, said it was a great honour to host the event. She succeeded in bringing the heat to Blackburn because she is a member of the UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing, which is supporting the competition.
She said: "A lot of people say they won't enter because they are not good enough but everyone should have a go, even if you don't stand a chance of winning the British Championships. It will be great to have a whole day and evening of salsa.
Couples will dance to medium to fast music and there are no dress restrictions or requirements.
The competition is open to couples aged over 16, at least one of whom must be a British resident.
Anyone interested in entering or going along to watch the performers should ring 01254 699221.
