LETTERS backing a pensioners' 'pay-per-view' protest over TV licence charges have been handed to Broadcast Minister Janet Anderson.

The Rossendale and Darwen MP had already received a 3,500-name petition calling for a fairer system of charges from founders of the Campaign for the Restoration of Older People's Services (CROPS), Susan Troughton and her husband, Jim, of Goodshaw Avenue, Loveclough.

Susan, a sheltered housing warden, says the current system is crazy, with some sheltered residents paying just £5 per year while others have to meet the full £101 licence charge.

"We want to see all pensioners paying one concessionary rate, be it £5 or half the licence fee," she said.

Susan said the individual letters calling for a more logical concessionary system added weight to the campaign.

She also called for more people who support the campaign to weigh in with letters of their own before the Government makes a final decision on the issue.
