MAY I urge all readers to contact their local councillors and tell them now that they don't want city status.

Unitary status costs the local tax payers £10 million for no improved services, city status will probably cost £30 million.

For the 'extra' work of unitary status councillors voted themselves an exorbitant pay increase, imagine how much they will pay themselves for the extra work involved with city status.

Rumour has it that next year our town councillors will vote to pay themselves a basic wage of between £12,000 and £15,000 per year as city councillors. This will in all likelihood increase in line with their own perceived importance.
