BELLS will soon ring out across an East Lancashire village now that a 92-year-old church clock has been put back into working order.
The clock chimes have been silent for 15 years, but time will soon be restored to Edenfield Parish Church after six weeks of painstaking work to repair the timepiece.
The work was part of a £6,000 scheme to renovate the church, paid for by a grant from the Pilsworth Environmental Company.
Andrew Halsted, of Underbank Watch and Clock Company, Rising Bridge, put the finishing touches - including painting the numbers on the face and replacing the hands - to the clock on Monday,
He said: "The clock hasn't worked for about a year and the chimes haven't rung for about 15 years.
"When we took the clock down, the chime and strike sides were completely rusted up and it has been quite a delicate task to bring them all back into working order.
"The only problem now is with the environmental health department as the clock doesn't have a mechanism to stop it ringing at night, but all being well it should be up and running in the next few days."
Other work at the church includes the refurbishment of the lychgate and church grounds, and the tidying up of the Garden of Remembrance.
