Manchester City Reserves 4 Burnley Reserves 1
A POWERFUL Manchester City line-up ultimately proved too strong for the Clarets reserves in their Pontins League Premier Division clash at Hyde United last night.
Burnley's young side more then held their own for an hour after taking a first-half lead through John Williamson.
But a 27-minute hat-trick from City substitute Chris Greenacre proved the difference as the hosts, who included first-team squad men Lee Crooks, Gary Mason, Tony Vaughan, Michael Brown, Jamie Pollock and Craig Russell, eventually ran out comfortable winners.
The Clarets started well and Brad Maylett and Anthony Shandran both missed chances before Craig Mawson had to be at his best, tipping over a header from Shaun Wright-Phillips and then saving from Nicky Fenton.
And Burnley went ahead after 34 minutes when Paul Weller floated in a free-kick for the unmarked Williamson to head home.
However the Clarets' lead last just four minutes before Greenacre equalised after Mawson spilled a fierce drive from Wright-Phillips, son of former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.
Greenacre's second on the hour then turned the game and three minutes later he made it 3-1 when heading home Brown's cross.
Pollock added City's fourth three minutes from time, collecting a short corner and unleashing a spectacular drive past Mawson.
BURNLEY: Mawson, Savage (Bowden), Kevan, Scott, Williamson (Devenney), Heywood, Weller, Clarke (Davis), Shandran, Grant, Maylett.
