POLICE are looking for two men who conned a 95-year-old woman out of £180 after claiming to have cleaned the gutters of her house.
A man knocked on the woman's door in the Whalley Road area of Clitheroe at 10am yesterday and demanded the cash after claiming to have undertaken the work.
She wrote him a cheque, which has since been cancelled, and he made off in a white van driven by a second man.
The man who knocked on the woman's door was white, in his early 20s, about 5ft 8ins and of slim build, with short, dark hair and wearing a red top.
The driver of the van was white or mixed race, in his mid 20s, about 5ft 9ins to 11ins and slim, with short, dark, wavy, scraped back hair.
The white Transit-style van had white or silver blanked-out rear windows.
A spokesman for Clitheroe police said: "Thankfully, the woman was able to cancel the cheque, but this was an appalling con trick. We are asking the elderly not to hand over cash to people claiming to have carried out unsolicited work and would like to hear from anyone with information about this incident."
Contact Clitheroe police in confidence on 01200 443344 if you can help.
