PADIHAM FC maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 away win over Wigan SMR in the West Lancashire Football League on Saturday.
Two goals from Anthony McCluskey in the opening 12 minutes gave the Storks a terrific start against a side who had themselves won three of their first five league games.
Darren Sutton pulled a goal back for Wigan in the 21st minute when he headed in a left wing cross and for the rest of the half the game became scrappy.
Wigan had a player sent off six minutes into the second half and although Padiham always had the edge, they could not score a third goal.
Wigan gave Padiham a scare five minutes from time when they hit the Storks crossbar and then forced Padiham goalkeeper Bobby Harris to make a point-blank save from the rebound.
In the end Padiham justifiably ended up winners and remain the early season leaders of the West Lancashire Football League Division One.
