AFTER 10 races and 66 miles of racing over road, fell, towpath and trail, Gary Wilkinson and Anthony Waterworth could not be separated and were declared joint winners of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix.

With just last Saturday's multi-terrain race at Barrowford Fell to go, Wilkinson was ahead by a single point with Andrew Hartley a further four in arrears. With each point representing a position, Waterworth's task was to beat Wilkinson by two places.

Rossendale Harrier Mark Aspinall won the six miler in 29.51 followed by the three Clayton contenders. Hartley took second to confirm a fine third in series, with Waterworth just failing to catch him by three seconds. Wilkinson, who at one stage was ahead of Waterworth, took fourth.

The splendid Jennifer Adams of Clitheroe was a clear winner of the ladies series and of course won the L45 category. At Barrowford the Red Rose athlete was second lady behind Danni Robson of Clayton with Janet Kelly third. Kelly was second in the series with L50 winner Christine Leathley (Clayton) third.

In all 440 different runners entered the Grand Prix, and 32 ran in all 10. The presentation will be held on Friday, September 10 at Barrowford Civic Hall at 8pm. There will be a disco and free pie and peas.
