I THOUGHT your supplement (LET, August 17) 'Best of Health,' was very informative, except for the section called 'Looking after your teeth.'
Most of the advice was excellent, but the part concerning water fluoridation was misleading. I thought it was wrong to give the impression that people were being deprived of it.
Also, to make the sweeping statement that water fluoridation is completely safe, when it has never been proven, is wrong. I think in this type of article, that all the information should be given and not just a one-sided point of view.
I can understand that this is a supplement, but surely you, as a newspaper, should be unbiased and provide people with information that is for and against.
Nothing was mentioned about all the countries that have banned fluoridation or about the fact that it would mean mass medication of a toxic substance and the problems it may cause.
I think everyone should have the right to choose and that means providing them with all the facts.

FOOTNOTE: This was a supplement which put forward the views of the area health authority on a variety of subjects. Over the years, we have carried numerous articles about the pros and cons of fluoride. Indeed, I have argued in the Opinion column on this page against the inclusion of the chemical in our water - Editor.
