SKIPPER Jonathan Clare led by example, top scoring with 22 and taking one wicket for five runs, as Burnley Cricket Club's Under-13s beat Rawtenstall in the Lancashire Colts League final.
Burnley batted first on their home ground and adedd 95 runs to the 200 with which each team starts. But they lost two wickets, each costing a deduction of eight runs, to set Rawtenstall a nett target of 279. Daniel Pickup was Burnley's next highest scorer with 15 and Chris Thomas claimed both Burnley wickets at a cost of 13 runs.
The home side's bowling line-up then proved too strong for Rawtenstall who lost 12 wickets and finished with a nett 165. Burnley's leading wicket-takers were Michael Kelly, who claimed 4-7 and James Fraser with 2-10. Colts League chairman Alan Taylor presented the White's Lemonade Shield to Burnley and the Jack Dakin runners-up trophy to Rawtenstall.
