A BURGLAR was linked to a break-in three years after the offence thanks to DNA profiling of blood found at the scene
Darren Hadaway, 33, of Railway Street, Barnoldswick, was conditionally discharged for 12 months by Burnley magistrates and must pay £50 costs, after admitting burglary with intent to steal, in August 1996.
Linda Forshaw, prosecuting, said the proprietor of the pet shop in Frank Street, Barnoldswick, locked the shop and was contacted by police in the early hours to say a window had been smashed.
A parrot was missing from its perch, but was later found. No stock was taken.
When Hadaway was arrested, he said he had been looking for a hamster cage and if he had found one, would have stolen it.
John McNabb, defending, said Hadaway had come across the window broken. The missing parrot was nothing to do with the defendant.
