A COUPLE from Fulwood are heading out to Zimbabwe next month, as part of a volunteer scheme.
John, 56, and Barbara Hughes, 55, have had a long-standing ambition to work in a developing country.
The opportunity arose when they signed up to help the development charity Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).
John and Barbara will work in Chinhoyi Technical College from September 20.
John will be responsible for setting up vocational training centres in the surrounding area, while Barbara will teach French and communication studies.
Barbara had previously taught at Broughton High School, and John worked as a teacher trainer at the Bolton Institute.
As a VSO volunteer, the Hughes will live in the local communities for two years, passing on their knowledge so that when they leave, their skills remain behind.
If you would like to find out more about VSO, call their enquiries unit on 0181 780 7500.
