IT was a fine day at the fair. A fine day at the fair I say!
That was the message from Coronation Street butcher Fred Elliott, who visited Much Hoole Country Fair as his alter-ego, actor John Savident.
John visited the 14th annual show at Goose Green Farm in Moss House Lane, to pass the Country Princess crown from Fiona Samson to Katy Bradley.
And he took time out to sign autographs, pass on a few of Fred's pearls of wisdom and came face to face with a live prize cow - fortunately, its Swiss origins meant that it didn't know Fred Elliott's profession.
The Ribble Dancers led by Michael Flatfoot and the Murphy Diggers - two of the group looked suspiciously like St Catherines Hospice's John Nixon and wife Maureen - also wowed the crowd with their own blend of Irish dancing.
Other attractions at the fair included a pet show, bonny baby competition, 70s group the Copycats and girl band the Cornwall Sisters.
