Bold Miners 52 Widnes Albert Park 2 THIS was a great win to open the season for the Miners.
Dave Scott opened the scoring for Bold with a well taken try after only five minutes and Ian Marsh added the gaol.
Gareth Hill hoodwinked the Park defence for another fine touch down, Marsh added the goal.
Albert Park struck back with a good penalty goal to reduce the arrears. Then came the try of the game, Ian Marsh received the ball in his own 20 metre area, burst through and evaded the entire Park defence to race 80 metres and score at the other end, he then added the goal.
Bold were now taking control of the game with the forwards running and tackling well. Following one of the forward breaks Gary Talbot scorched over for his customary try, Marsh added the goal to make the score 24-2 at half time.
Albert Park kept going throughout but had no answer to Bold speed and fitness. Scott, Hill and Marsh put the result beyond doubt with a try each. Debutants Alan Barker and Lee Bolton scored a try apiece and Marsh added four goals to complete the scoring for Bold.
Gareth Hill took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award with good displays from Peter Henry and Mark Saunders in a brilliant team performance.
Match ball sponsors were QED Scaffolding.
