AN angry boyfriend smashed a window and threw a piece of glass towards his girlfriend and police during a disturbance in the early hours, a court was told.
Burnley magistrates heard how Stephen Doyle's partner was standing in front of their home, barefoot in the glass. Doyle was extremely abusive and shouted at the crowd gathered in the street.
Doyle, 23, of Harvey Street, Nelson, was fined £80, with £40 costs, after admitting threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said police were called to Harvey Street in the early hours.
Doyle was inside his house with the window broken and swore at police and members of the public.
He picked up a piece of broken glass and threw it towards his girlfriend and the police. The glass missed but police went inside and arrested Doyle.
Mark Williams, defending, said Doyle and his girlfriend had been out separately and she arrived home without a key. He broke the window, a row followed and neighbours contacted police.
Doyle had not taken his medication for stress and nerves because he knew he would be going out drinking.
Tempers were frayed and the defendant invited the police to kick the door in.
Mr Williams went on: "He has no recollection of throwing a piece of glass."
