A WOMAN was indecently assaulted in broad daylight after getting off a bus.
The assault took place on the bridge in Junction Lane, Newton, at about 9am on Wednesday, August 25.
Shortly after getting off a bus in Earlestown bus station, the woman became aware of a man following her as she walked beside Safeway supermarket. She quickened her step but as she walked over the bridge the man caught up to her and pinned her arms against some railings.
The victim struggled but the attacker was too strong and subjected her to an indecent assault before pushing her away and walking off.
The woman, who was left extremely shocked and shaken by her ordeal, described the man as white, about 5ft 8ins tall and fat with dark-brown or black, short hair. He was clean shaven but his appearance was scruffy and he wore blue trousers and a black, three-quarter length coat with a drawstring.
Police are looking into a possible link with a similar incident which happened recently and are warning local women to be on their guard when walking out alone.
Information on the attack can be passed on to DC Karen Cummings at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6064 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
