POLICE were today trying to identify a man a killed by a train last night as he crossed the tracks at a station.
The man was struck by the 10.52pm Colne to Preston train at 11.20pm at Church railway station in what is being described as a tragic accident.
Inspector Bob Ford at Accrington said it is understood the man had got off a train and was crossing the track when he was struck by another train.
Officers from British Transport police, Lancashire police and a team of paramedics were called to the scene but the man was found to be dead.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and that a full report was being prepared for the coroner.
The man was not carrying any form of identification at the time of his death and officers are appealing for help from local people in identifying him.
He is described as white and aged between 25 and 35. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt, blue jeans with a Giorgio Rivera label and blue, white and gold trainers with a Mercury label.
