AS their eyes met across Blackpool's Tower Ballroom, Clifford and Esther Cook didn't realise it was the start of a partnership that would last 60 years.

Esther lived in Oswaldtwistle and met Blackpool lad Clifford on a trip to the world famous ballroom.

They married in the resort's Holy Trinity Church and lived in Blackpool before moving to Blackburn.

Esther worked as a teacher and Clifford was in the forces and then drove a van for a bakery firm.

They have one son, Philip, who works as a teacher in Germany. Esther now lives at Springfield Cottage nursing home and the couple held a diamond wedding anniversary party there for all their friends.

Clifford said: "I think the secret of a long and happy marriage is agreeing. If I had my time again I'd marry the same girl - if she'd have me."
