WE still have problems with cars speeding on Rockcliffe Street in Blackburn. There has been a lot of car crashes and two or three children have been hospitalised. An occupant of one died of his injuries some days later.
I no longer have my children living with me, but I am campaigning for those of other people.
I think a lot of kids and don't like to see them put in danger, but to watch them trying to cross this street - sometimes alone - frightens me. On many occasions I have gone to see them safely across.
I do not seem to be getting any response from our councillor. I want pressure put on the local authority to do something before a child is killed.
J A McDERMOTT (Mr), Rockcliffe Street, Blackburn.
FOOTNOTE: A council spokeswoman said: "Money has been allocated from this year's accident reduction schemes budget for traffic calming measures on Rockcliffe Street.
"Public consultation will commence later this year with the aim of finalising the design so that committee approval can be obtained at the highways and transportation sub-committee meeting early in the new year. Expected construction date is March 2000.
"The proposals for waiting restrictions have been deferred until this time so that these requirements can be implemented in conjunction with the traffic calming scheme."
