TYLDESLEY RU withered in Saturdays heat, losing a tight game at Well Street.

A touchdown 20 minutes from the end of an energy-sapping game earned Heath Halifax an 11-7 victory.

The home pack began brightly, but, against the run of play, Heath took the lead with a long range penalty.

Another fluid movement from Tyldesley saw the ball spun wide where Steve Ashurst and Andy Dickenson linked well. With Heath under pressure defence, skipper David Sivill collected the ball and sent prop Howard Hughes driving over the line for the first try of the season. Sivill converted.

The heat and early-season rustiness showed as both teams made several errors; Darren Edge made two piercing breaks, sadly they came to nought with nobody in support. And they paid for that with Heath grabbing the decisive TD.

Tyldesley kick off their league campaign at Ormskirk, needing a vast improvement in all areas.

The Seconds lost at Heath, Ian Worsfold and Dave Baguley bagging tries, while the Thirds won 36-28 with tries from Mark Gregory 2, John Fetherston, Stewart Ashurst and Seth Adams, who also landed four goals and a penalty.
