MRS J. Hilton (Bury Times, Sept 3) asked what we are doing about the pile of rubbish left after the demolition of the shops at Elms Precinct, Whitefield, by owners North West Properties of the Isle of Man.
The council served a notice on North West Properties at their Isle of Man address on August 9, requiring them to remove the demolition spoil within 28 days.
North West Properties have until September 13 to appeal against that notice at the magistrates court. To date, so far I am aware, we have had no response whatever from them.
If no appeal is received by September 13, then North West Properties will have 28 days in which to remove the rubble from the site. If they do not remove the rubble, then the council will have the power to remove it and send the bill to North West Properties.
From the tone of Mrs Hilton's letter, anyone would think it was the council who demolished the shops on Elms Precinct. It is in fact an absentee landlord who apparently treats people and properties like he was playing a game of Monopoly and who simply leaves local people to pick up the pieces.
