A PRESTON councillor is preparing to kick up a stink - in a bid to get horse muck re moved from his ward!

Councillor Terry Cartwright claims that his Deepdale constituency is being bypassed by the council's cleansing vehicles, who are being deployed in the town centre to please visitors to the borough.

And as a result, the mess left by police horses patrolling Deepdale's streets when Preston North End are playing at home is being left on the streets for as long as a week.

Coun Cartwright, who along with wife Joyce represents Deepdale, says his residents are sick and tired of the community being abandoned by the council.

He said: "We all pay rates so we should be entitled to get a good standard of service.

"Instead, the streets are covered in litter, bins are overflowing and people are having to wade through horse much on pavements.

"It may be good for the roses but it isn't so pleasant on your sole!"

Coun Cartwright appealed for more attention to be paid to Deepdale earlier this year after residents complained to him.

To prove his point, he placed a coke can in a bush - and it wasn't removed for three months.

He added: "The horse muck is just the icing on a very nasty cake. Why should Deepdale residents be forced to live in a tip just so the town centre is immaculate.

"I can't remember the last time I saw a road sweeper down here. I saw a worker with a big bag the other day in the town centre and he was struggling to fill the bag. We can help him there!

"Surely if thousands of people are walking into one area like they do when PNE play it is obvious cleansing will be required afterwards."

A spokesman for Preston Borough Council denied Deepdale was being ignored, saying each area received the attention it deserved.
