Shaw Rhinos 36 Bold Miners 10 BOLD slipped to defeat against a fine Shaw outfit on Saturday.
The Oldham side opened the scoring after five minutes with a fine try wide following a spell of pressurised attacking.
Ian Kenyon replied for Bold when he crashed over for a great try to equal the score. Kenyon looked to be scoring again a few minutes later but was pulled back with the line at his mercy.
The Miners squandered possession and missed several chances of scoring and gradually Shaw took control of the game, opening up a 22-4 lead at half time.
The Rhinos forwards were dominating the Miners pack but the Miners backs were showing great spirit with Gareth Hill, Dave Scott, Alan Barker and Mark Saunders causing the Shaw defence a lot of trouble.
Ian Marsh, who returned to the field after receiving a head injury in the first half, scored a good try and goal to show brief resistance but Shaw ran out worthy winners.
Dave Scott took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award well supported by Lee Bolton and Gary Talbot.
Matchball sponsors were QED Scaffolding.
