Blackbrook 10 Ideal Isberg 33 BLACKBROOK were sunk almost without trace by an in-form Hull outfit on Saturday.
The visitors minimised their errors, tackled with great resilience and capitalised upon their frequent attacking opportunities with former RFL professionals Adam Charlesworth and Terry Smirk prominent.
Left centre Charlesworth broke the deadlock with the first try of the game midway through the first half while scrum-half and coach Smirk, chipped in with a crucial drop goal immediately after the break and grabbed the visitors' sixth try 10 minutes before the end.
Ideal's tigerish tackling restricted Brook to a solitary try either side of the interval. They absorbed almost everything the homesters could throw at them and then hit back in style to remain in control.
Midway through the first period before the visitors eventually broke the deadlock with a try in the corner by Charlesworth.
Five minutes later, Brook's scrum-half Darren Mitchell burst clear down the left flank and cleverly held off the challenge of three defenders before sending Paul Toole over in the corner and around to the posts. Ian Callaghan added the easy conversion.
But Brook's hopes of causing an upset after taking a six-four lead were quickly dashed by a 17-point scoring burst by the visitors.
The decisive period came in a 20 minute spell either side of the interval when the visitors turned a 6-4 deficit into a 21-6 advantage with three tries, two conversions and a drop goal. Right centre Richard Russell regained the initiative for the visitors with an unconverted try on 32 minutes. Six minutes later, centre colleague Adam Charlesworth opened up the Brook defence with an excellent 45-metre diagonal run to the opposite flank before turning the ball back inside to send stand-off Rob Shaw over near the posts.
Second row man Paul Wardell gave the visitors a 14-6 interval lead with the easy conversion.
Within two minutes of the restart Terry Smirk slotted over a field goal and loose forward Andy Dearlove put the game well out of the homesters reach at 6-21 with a try goaled by Paul Wardell on 47 minutes.
Blackbrook reduced the deficit on the hour with an excellent solo try from wingman Mike Maloney but the homesters joy was short lived.
Burly substitute Carl Bristow crashed over close to the posts on 65 minutes, and five minutes later, scrum-half Smirk grabbed the visitors sixth try in a similar fashion. Paul Wardell added both conversions.
Darren Mitchell received the Construction Power Services man of the match accolade. Blackbrook Royals are on the lookout for players for their under 15s side. For details contact Eric Saunders on 630032 or turn up for training at Boardmans Lane on Mondays (6.30).
