Halifax 61 West Park 33 WEST Park's final warm-up game before the start of league rugby this Saturday at Altrincham Kersal left the selectors with more problems than solutions.
For Park's midfield defence was torn to ribbons by a physically stronger Halifax side. The early departure of prop Neil Atherton indicated that his injury problems at the end of last season have not cleared up, but at least his replacement Ross Bell showed distinct promise on his debut.
A Martin Strett try converted by Glenn Fletcher was Park's only first half reply to Halifax's 40 point onslaught but at least the second period showed improvement by a rejigged West Park side who registered 26 points to 21 by the Yorkshire side. Scorers for Park were tries by Chris Stabler, Sean Fletcher, Paul Bailey and Steve Bibby.
Glenn Fletcher adding three conversions.
Other results: West Park Second 48 Runcorn First 24, Runcorn Second 10 West Park Fourth 17.
