A FULL strength Rainford CC returned into the old routine on Saturday but just failed in their bid for maximum points against Croston.
Electing to bat Rainford treated the expectant sun drenched onlookers to a batting exhibition. Mike Cook hit a flawless 61 while opening partner Dalrymple chipped in with 25. Paul Calland continued his fine recent run of form with an entertaining 56 and as usual Andy Robinson contributed useful runs, 41 not out, as the home side declared on an impressive 200-3.
In need of the points the Croston batsmen went all out for victory. Their innings was built around a solid 64 from Caunce and with support coming regularly from the other end a victory seemed on the cards. But wickets started to fall and with just two overs remaining the victory could have gone either way as just 12 runs were required with two wickets remaining. But Croston ended on 192-8 with Rainford claiming the lions share of the points.
Match ball sponsor was Beesley and Fildes.
