THE fun of the fair starts in Bury tonight, September 10 - and the town's residents and traders will be hoping that only fun is on the agenda.
Bury's historic bi-annual charter fair has caused controversy since Bury Council announced it was moving from Castlecroft to The Rock in the heart of town.
Many businesses were furious with the decision, worrying about potential drunken behaviour, noise and disruption to shops.
The operating times have been amended following objections. Small rides and stalls will be on pedestrianised areas of The Rock and in Kay Gardens, from 1pm on Monday to Friday and from 11am on Saturday.
The main funfair, on The Rock car park, starts at 6pm from Monday to Friday and at 1pm on Saturday.
A full report on how the fair turns out will be put to the council next month.
