ONY Worswick claimed one of the first motorsport titles of the year when he was crowned BOSS champion at Donington.
And Worswick, who drives an ex-Rubens Barrichello Jordan, won the series - billed as the fastest single-seater championship in Britain - with his easiest victory of the year.
"I knew that fourth place would be good enough to take the title, so I decided, untypically, to have a nice relaxing run and keep out of trouble," he said.
"The only other driver who could win, Rob Gray, stormed off in to the lead, followed by Dave Hutchinson, Klaas Zwart and myself.
"I thought it was going to be pretty dull, then all hell broke loose in front of me when Zwart rammed Hutchinson's Benetton, eliminating the pair of them on the spot and promoting me to second.
"Gray had disappeared into the distance and finally crossed the line 29 seconds ahead.
"Then the stewards adjudged that he had jumped the start, gave him a one-minute penalty which handed me the race!
"Quite honestly, it was the least satisfying win of the year, but all that matters now is the title. "I've had lots of phone calls from friends, supporters and motorsport magazines congratulating me, and it's only just beginning to sink in."
Despite opposition from the heavily-funded European Aviation team, the unsponsored Worswick Engineering outfit, which consists of Tony, brother Nigel, Dave and Carol Blackburn, Roger Darling, Andy Lovett, Gordon Brooks and Dave Read, have been the pacesetters throughout the season.
"It's a tribute to the hard work and determination of everyone in the team that we've taken on what is basically the Tyrrell Grand Prix team - and beaten them fair and square," he said.
