THE organisers of a huge torchlight procession through a town centre are looking for volunteers to collect cash.
The final touches have been put to the procession taking place in Clitheroe from 7.30pm this evening.
More than 70 floats and marching bands will wend their through the centre of Clitheroe to mark the start of the town's millennium celebrations.
The last procession through the town, in 1992, celebrated 40 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth.
It was a huge success, attracting a bumper number of floats and thousands of visitors to Clitheroe.
And organisers are expecting more than 10,000 spectators in Clitheroe for this year's event.
The procession will be followed by a massive firework display and fairground displays at Clitheroe Castle.
Town centre pubs are expecting a bumper trade as the merrymaking continues late into the night.
Mock battles to mark the event will also take place in the castle grounds today and tomorrow afternoon.
Clitheroe Mayor Alan Yearing, said there had been considerable interest in the event and a great night was on the cards.
If you can help with the collecting, contact Coun Yearing on 01200 423138 or town clerk John Wells on 01200 424722.
