YOUR report on the proposed Blackburn with Darwen Council 'cabinet' (LET, September 1) shows that it is costing the council taxpayer more than £1,000 per day in allowances for councillors.
Now, we are told that there could be only two full council meetings a year. These will no doubt be to increase the allowances. A caucus of nine Labour councillors is going to run the town. Then, why, are we paying for more than 60?
You have often reported that Blackburn is being run by a rump - now, it is confirmed and out in the open.
It appears these New Labour despots are only going to have the committees that the law states they must have.
Now, that the leader is going to get £17,000-plus a year. Is it not time that this post was put out to a vote of the people and not just elected by the Labour clique?
It's time for Blackburn to have the calibre of people who can do the job, not just Labour's cronies who imagine they are up to it.
