THERE was a double first for Jubilee in their Blackburn Sunday League fixture last weekend. They not only gained their first victory of the season but also their first ever win against Darwen Alexandra.

Jubilee's emphatic 4-0 success included two goals from Akil Kadir and one each from Dean King and Jason Boyle.

Another Division One encounter was the Cherry Tree derby between Bee Hive and Station. A 2-1 win for Bee Hive made them early league leaders. Their goals were scored by Lee Sculpher and Neil Smith, with John Eastham replying.

Dexter Paints and New Gardeners each registered their first point of the season in a 3-3 draw. Scorers for newly-promoted Dexters were Russell Woods (two) and Lee Casey. Gardeners replied through Dave Berry (two) and Craig Shorrock. Almost half of the league's clubs have entered the Lancashire Sunday Trophy, but only three of them were involved in first round action. The rest received byes to the next round.

Champions Kings Inn were drawn against new recruits to the league, Wellington Samba. It took Kings some time to establish dominance against their spirited young opponents, but they finished with a 6-0 victory.

Servicemaster were also in first round action when they travelled to Rochdale to face Top House. The home side proved to be a very strong outfit. They fielded four players with football league experience, including ex- Blackburn Rovers' Tony Diamond. Servicemaster put in a terrific performance and had good chances of scoring, but they lost 1-0.

Foresters are the Division Two pacesetters. Steve Mitchell and John Murphy both scored twice in the 4-0 victory over West End.

Heys Inn also kept a clean sheet, and scored five against Fox and Hounds. Martin Aspinwall hit a hat trick, with Paul Demaine and Jason Threlfall also on target. Cooper Rigg and Witton Inn produced a high-scoring match. It was 3-3 at half time, but Witton eventually gained the upper hand in a 6-4 victory. The winners goals came from Shaun Smith (two), Neil Fuller, Paul Walker, Shaun Richmond and Glen Fogarty, while John Brannigan (two), Chris Barden and Matthew Turner replied.

Corning Communications' first outing of the season ended in defeat. Gavin Holden scored twice for the Comms, but their opponents, Lammack, hit six. Howard Best supplied four of them, Kal Hafeji and Dave Aspin the others.

James Street's draw against Sign and Poster gave them their first point from a league game since last October. Paul Taylor (two), Mark Simpson and Chris Dutton were James Street's scorers, while Sign and Poster had Jason Brown with a hat trick and Andy Gregson on the scoresheet.

Longshaw and Park Inn also shared the spoils. Clive Riley put Longshaw ahead from the penalty spot, then Paul Maynard slotted in the equaliser.

Crown Berger tasted defeat on their Oakenhurst pitch. They went down 2-1 to GFR Plumbing whose goals came from Steve Kay and Darren Brindle.

A Karl Eastham strike was enough to give Guide maximum points against Stanley Arms. They are the early leaders in Division Three, along with Malt and Hops who defeated Marriotts Accountants 4-1. Chris Walsh (two), Eugene Boyle and Danny Atkinson were on target for the winners, Gareth Lowe for the Accountants.

Old Toll Bar made the journey to the ground of Workington FC to represent Lancashire in a challenge match against Howard Royals, the Cumbrian Sunday champions. This was at the invitation of Jennings Brewery who sponsor the two county competitions. The Blackburn side failed to produce a performance worthy of the occasion and were well beaten 6-0.
