ALDWINIANS v BLACKBURN UNDER-7s and UNDER-8s combined match) 4-1 (tries)
THIS was the opening game of rugby for the season and was full of thrills, spills and forward passes. Both clubs have been very pleased with recruitment. New players are very welcome (boys and girls).
Leading the charge were Jessica Mgurty with her two team mates Lauren Nyham and Katie Holden, who kept the boy players firmly in tow.
Our youngest player, William Holden, four, retired early with a sore thumb but soon perked up when the hot meat and potato pies arrived.
New player James Fox was outstanding.
Tries were scored by Luke McVarish, Maxwell Nelson (player of the match) and Ben Bridson (3).
training for all mini and youth squads starts at 10.30am. Mini and youth AGM after training at 12.30pm.
BRUFC are actively looking for new players who will be made very welcome - most kids love playing mini rugby.
Parents/guardians, please contact Mike Holden, chairman of mini and youth rugby, on 01254 729837 for details or BRUFC on 01254 247669.
UNDER-10s PANTHERS 50 ALDWINIANS 10
THIS was a strong display of rugby from Blackburn Panthers U10s, who dominated proceedings from the start. Captained by Craig Salisbury, the squad showed good tackling and well disciplined rugby. Man of the match was Edward Rigby (who scored four tries). Michael Smallbone, Mark Byrom, Jamie McCann, Ben Rigby (hat trick), Ben Roberts and Calvin Ferguson deserve special mention.
UNDER-10s TIGERS 15 ALDWINIANS 25
ALDWINIANS fielded a physically larger side and although defeated, the Tigers really put every effort into a superb display of rugby.
They should not feel at all disappointed and were unlucky to have several big players missing.
Tom Myers, James York, Tom Woodward and Andrew Clucas played particularly well.
Man of the match was Joseph Holden, who scored the try of the day that Gareth Edwards would have been proud of.
UNDER-12S 12 ALDWINIANS 20
BLACKBURN fielded a strong squad but lacked co-ordination against a well drilled Aldwinians side.
The game was closely fought but Blackburn was pipped at the post.
Adam Taylor ran 30 yards to score a breakaway try that was converted by Fergal Marlborough.
The side was captained by Tobias Yates, man of the match was Edward Stockton with some impressive rugby.
