PETER Duerden's comments (Letters, September 9) about the junction at Fore Street in Lower Darwen, while amusing, were full of inaccuracies.
The junction had been widened some years ago to allow lorries, from many thriving local businesses, to be able to turn out of the village.
Since then we've seen the opening of the M65 motorway and, with the help of campaigning residents, the building of Eccleshill Link Road and a weight restriction placed on Greenbank Terrace.
All this means that lorries should no longer be using Greenbank Terrace and Duchess Street, thus making part of the village a safer place to live.
Again, to meet villagers' concerns over road safety and to provide the zebra crossing people had wanted for many years the, council introduced the traffic calming that is now being put in place.
A local housing developer, not local residents, paid for this and local residents were consulted before it began to be introduced.
For many, particularly young children and elderly, the road safety measures are a fairy tale come true.
