PLOUGH are the shining stars of the handful of Memorial Sunday League games already played as their superior goal difference sees them at the head of a 'gang of four' at the top of Division One.
Among these come newly-promoted Royal Hotel mand Lower Darwen, who finished low down last season. The Lord Nelson (ex Swan Whalley) make up the four.
In Division Two, Oswaldtwistle Refugees, who finished low down in Division Three last season and who only gained Division Two status through club withdrawals, are the surprise leaders and are the only club in that division to have won both their matches.
Knuzden Brook (ex Blackburn Bull's Head) have started poorly and are appealing for new players (anyone interested should ring Keith Baron on 01254 602419). Newly promoted from Division Three, Duke of Wellington (ex Lomax), Brown Cow, Alma Inn and Cross Axes (ex United Social Club) will all be optimistic with a win and a draw under their belts.
Division Three, the division containing nine new clubs and the division hardest to forecast champions at such an early stage, shows three of the new clubs setting an early pace, these are Kings Arms, Griffins Head and Clitheroe Low Moor with notably Kings Arms who have already scored 21 goals in their first two matches.
