REGARDING the Lower Darwen fairy story told by Peter Duerden (Letters, September 9), everything he said is true.
The road is narrower than before and buses turning left out of Greenbank Terrace are struggling to negotiate the corner on to Branch Road, but the worst change has not been mentioned.
The persons who designed this new road layout decided that there was something missing.
Ah! they thought, what about another mini roundabout? (There is one approximately 150 yards down the road). Let's put another one here at this junction - this should cause more havoc. It won't ease congestion and the flow of traffic, but what the hell!
No, there is still something missing. What about a zebra crossing? Yes, they agreed, one should think about pedestrians, but where should it go? They debated for a while and then all agreed - Let's put it here, right on this left-hand corner. That seems a good place.
Now, drivers, if you are turning left, after doing your Green Cross Code, have a quick last look to the right. Nothing coming? OK, set off - try and negotiate the turn before cars from the left stop you. Whoops, you've knocked down someone who has just stepped on to the zebra crossing.
Do these people not drive cars, or do they need a larger salary to think better and get it right?
