GRAHAM Lloyd hammered his best of the season at Taunton - but handed star billing to Somerset's England paceman Andy Caddick.
It was a battle royal between them for most of the day with Lloyd hitting 144, his third century of the summer, and Caddick claiming 8-113.
But the Lancashire hot-shot said: "He was brilliant, bowling all day and never allowing you a moment's relaxation. He is a top bowler."
However, Lloyd's contribution with 24 boundaries off 151 balls was spectacular, taking his haul over the second half of the season to 583 runs in eight completely innings, at an average of 73.
"I've felt in really good nick, the best I've been for a long time," he said. "I was dropped in mid-season after a poor run of scored, but I don't think that's had anything to do with it. I've just hit top form."
Taunton's flat, hard pitch and fast outfield was the perfect stage for Lloyd but Caddick was a constant threat. Six years ago he destroyed Lancashire with his career best 9-32 - "I was in that game, too, and I didn't enjoy it much," admitted Lloyd.
Lancashire were disappointed with their 322 total. Winning the toss appeared to be worth more than 400 but only Lloyd and John Crawley really got to grips with the Caddick menace. And, with bad weather forecast, they face a tough task to grab their eighth win from nine games.
The start of play was delayed today by rain and bad light.
