REGRETTABLY, to the detriment of everybody, the credibility of the constabulary is constantly being dragged into disrepute.
Take two instances in two reports (LET, September 2).
1. An over-zealous confrontation concerned a Rolls Royce with a marginally higher bonnet than other cars, which may obstruct the view of drivers coming out from a side street when parked 15 metres from the junction. The police issued its owner with a fixed penalty ticket of £20. This was contested by the defendant who discovered that the Highway Code's minimum was 10 metres.
The case was dismissed - yet another considerable waste of police duty through a lack of discretion.
2. In contrast, an extensive police search failed to find the body of a Knuzden woman, which was discovered after two months in the vicinity of her home by a man walking his dog.
Perhaps he should be recruited, when there is a need to find other missing persons.
