WHALLEY U8s 1 JUNIOR SAINTS 2

WHALLEY Juniors under 8s played their first competitive league game in the Longridge all weather pitch league and gave an excellent account of themselves.

Saints scored after five minutes but Whalley soon grabbed an equaliser by George Henderson.

In the second half play, flowed from end to end but just before the finish, Saints broke clear to grab the winner. Robert Donald was named man of the match.

BLUE STAR U9s 6 WHALLEY U9s 1

DESPITE holding a very strong Blue Star team to 0-0 at half time, a speculative shot early in the second half saw them trailing 1-0.

This led to a steady stream of goals by Blue Star.

Not to be outdone, Whalley conjured up a fantastic strike of their own through Nathan Catchpole. Whalley keeper Matthew Cookson was their man of the match.

WHALLEY PANTHERS U10s 3 IVY ROVERS 2

IN A very even first half, Whalley took the lead through Shomi Malik only to be pegged back just before the break. Whalley retook the lead early in the second half with a good strike from Robert Bennett but Ivy Rovers once again hit back.

With just minutes to go, man of the match Robert Bennett added his second and Whalley's winner.

Peter Iveson, Steven Blackshaw and Chris Hawara in goal also had outstanding games.

LANGHO JNRS 1 WHALLEY PUMAS U10s 7

AFTER a steady start by Whalley's defence, they then scored four goals in a seven-minute spell - scorers were Teddy Foster, Mark Frankland and two from Adam Brown.

Langho hit back early in the second half and pulled a goal back but further goals from Thomas Keighley, Sam Townend and man of the match William Henderson clinched the points.

WHALLEY TIGERS U11s 1 WHALLEY ARROWS U11s 0

THE game swung from end to end but sound defensive work by both teams kept the scores level at half time.

With 10 minutes to go, Ben Wright scored from a corner to win a very sporting contest.

The stars for the Arrows were man of the match Mark Astley, Robert Kellaway and Marlon Murray. Gary McLaughlin was the Tigers' man of the match, with Donald Wharton outstanding at the back.

WHALLEY U12s 2 BLUE STAR 5

WHALLEY took the lead after eight minutes with an unstoppable free kick by Darren Fothergill from outside the area. Blue Star deservedly equalised after 15 minutes and took the lead just after half time. Whalley's keeper Callum Mahon made some fine saves before finally conceding a third.

Sam Dean reduced the arrears as Whalley looked for an equaliser, but it was Blue Star who added two further goals in the final 10 minutes.

Callum Mahon was named man of the match for Whalley and Darren Fothergill and Andrew Nixon were also outstanding.

BLUE STAR 10 WHALLEY U13s 0

IT was nearly all one-way traffic in the first half with Blue Star seeming to score at will and Whalley were restricted to the occasional breakaway. Trailing 8-0 at half time, Whalley put up a tremendous battling performance in the second half and forced several corners from which John Lawson sent a header crashing againt the bar.

Michael Rigby, Daniel Stevenson and Martin Walton battled well to restrict Blue Star to only two more goals. But Whalley never gave up and Michael Rigby was their man of the match.

WHALLEY U15s 5 REVIDGE YOUTH 3

THE home side had plenty of the ball and went close to scoring with Jamie Barnes and David Mercer both missing chances. Against the run of play, Revidge opened the scoring but Jamie Barnes equalised just before half time.

Revidge were quickest off the mark in the second half and soon made it 2-1 before David Price scored with a fine header from a David Mercer corner. Revidge again took the lead, but Whalley's never-say-die attitude finally paid off when first Barnes, and then Price, hit the target.

Barnes got the his side's fifth goal to complete his hat-trick.

David Mercer was named man of the match but also outstanding were James Hoare and goalscorers Barnes and Price.

BRUNLEA JNRS 6 WHALLEY U16s 1

BRUNLEA were outstanding in the first 20 minutes and hit Whalley with four fine goals, but Whalley rallied and finally got back into the game.

In the second half Whalley pulled a goal back through David Perrin after Brunlea had added a fifth.

Andrew McGuire was Whalley's man of the match on his debut, and Mark Capstick and Ian Whittaker were also outstanding.
