TWO different time trials in Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon benefited from improving weather conditions as the brisk wind began to die away resulting in a crop of fast times and personal bests for those lucky enough to be later starters in the events.
In the Yorkshire veterans 10-mile race on the Tadcaster course, Peter Greenwood of the Clayton Velo shaved a few more seconds off a recent personal best to 20 minutes 32 seconds and Peter Haigh of the Nelson Wheelers also clocked a personal best with 21:20.
In the Knaresborough Racing Team 25-mile event based on the A1 road, Dave Brown (NLRC) was just three seconds away from his own personal best with 54:22 while Andy Gates, of Barrowford, and Team Lusso clocked 55:25 after a relatively early start and Jonathan Boothman of the Pendle Forest improved to 55:37.
Meanwhile, on the same afternoon over in Lancashire on the Garstang 10-mile course Henry Iddon of the Cycling Club of Lancashire was winner in 21:18 riding a new bike with a 104 inch fixed gear and Jon Purdy of Blackburn and the Lancashire Road Club was third in 21:34. Paul Warrener of the Rossendale Road Club improved his previous best at the distance by almost a minute to 22:55 and Sue Cheetham of Blackburn and District CTC was third lady in 25:05.
