PRESTON'S Asian community could benefit from recommendations put to Preston Borough Council by the Local Government Association.

Town Hall chiefs are to meet with anti-racism campaigners to discuss the LGA's calls for all local governments to produce a pledge to racial equality.

It has called for targets to be set for every council department to eliminate discrimination.

The LGA has also called for more people from ethnic minorities to be employed by councils and that racial equality skills should be classed alongside other personal skills.

The proposals are the LGA's response to the Macpherson Report on the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, following the murder of the teenager and the resulting botched police investigation.
