A WARNING has gone out after a tarmac gang posing as Council roadworkers duped a pensioner out of £700.
Householders are asked to be wary after the men offered to surface a private drive, were paid and left without completing the job.
Deputy borough engineer Peter Taylor said: "This gang is no way associated with the Council. They are not working for the Council and their materials are not obtained through the Council.
"The Council may well be carrying out work on roads but they will not be doing any repairs or resurfacing private driveways. All our workmen carry identification and workers claiming to be employed by the Council should be asked to prove their identity.
"Residents are at liberty to choose whoever they want to resurface their driveways but are strongly advised to ask for identity and details of the company, agree precisely the work to be carried out and not hand over any money until the work has been completed to their satisfaction."
