GRANGE Park golfer Ken Hudson took a major step towards his goal of a top five place in the Mitushiba Northern Order of Merit - and a possible place in the Lancashire team - when he lifted the Acorn Trophy at Accrington last week.
The one handicapper had two rock solid rounds of 71 and 70 to win on a card play-off from plus one golfer Gary Boardman, a regular county player who last month won the Grange Park Rosebowl. Ken's first win in four year's of competing in the Northern Order of Merit gains him 150 points and pushed him up to sixth place in the table with four events remaining.
Back at Grange Park, Ken's scratch league captain, Andy Twist, shot an impressive two under par 70 to win the Collins Cup. Playing off three handicap, Andy's nett 67 was one ahead of Andrew Rawlinson (14 handicap) and David Jackson (19). Andrew was awarded second place on a card play-off.
In the Fred Brown Cup, the club competition for the over 50s, Frank Gallagher was the clear winner with a 90 less 25 for 65, Mike Cooper (21 handicap) had a nett 67 ahead of Bill Douse (11) who was third with a nett 68 after a card play-off.
