I AM writing to express support for the idea of rebuilding a rail link to Leigh via Tyldesley (Journal, September 2).
The idea of building a bus route down a former railway line seems to be utterly ridiculous. When I told my brother who lives in London about this idea, he found it a bit of a joke.
Although GMPTE claim they have majority support, my experience is that most people would prefer a rail link or Metro. Why not put a single Metro line/rail link down the East Lancs and join up to the proposed busway route with stations at Tyldesley, Mosley Common and Leigh.
The East Lancs rail/metro could join on at Salford Crescent or Salford Station. This would take some of the huge traffic off the East Lancs and be a far better alternative than the unwanted busway.
If Eccles can have a metro, whilst already possessing a railway station, why can't Leigh and Tyldesley have either a metro or railway station?
