Farnworth 16 Haydock 10 HAYDOCK lost their unbeaten record to a strong Widnes side.

They started brightly and were on the attack straight away, and only good cover tackling by the Widnes side kept them out.

Against the run of play Farnworth scored near the posts to lead 6-0 after 15 minutes. Farnworth came into the game a lot more now and Haydock had to do some good tackling, but after 25 minutes the Widnes side broke through again to score a converted try.

Haydock were up against it now but good runs from Reynolds, Dolan and Kelsey made ground. Haughey always looked dangerous with his kicks through. Farnworth ended the first half scoring with a penalty goal.

Within three minutes of the restart Haydock got their first points when Ireland put in Dolan to score. Ireland converted to make it 14-6.

Farnworth took another two points from a penalty to make it 16-6 to Farnworth, but with time running out Haydock still battled and with three minutes to go Pearson put in Tither in the corner to make it 16-10.

Best for Haydock were were Haughey Cahlin, Reynolds and Kelsey. Golborne Parkside under 15s nil Haydock 38

This was a tremendous defensive effort by Haydock against a determined Golborne side. They swept into a 22-nil half-time lead, courtesy of tries by Danny Lyon, Chris Lloyd, Ashley Shaw and Danny Gee.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Haydock registered futher tries through Ashley Shaw, Andy Owen and Ben Melia. Matthew Cunliffe stretched his account to five goals. Rekon man of the match was Barry Kerkhof and Craddock and Lamb top tackler was Danny Gee.

Haydock under 14s 46 Hindley nil

Haydock made an impressive start to the season. Try scorers were Rekon man of the match Kevin Hughes (2), Craig Tipene (2), Matthew Allen, Michael Allen, Daniel Rimmer, Mark Jones and Chris Dyson, with goals added by Robert Palmer (3) and Matthew Foley (2).

The under 14s would like to congratulate coach Kevin Tipene on his Railtrack coach of the year award.

Haydock under 13s 6 Crosfields 30

Haydock produced a fine second-half display, but the damage had already been done. The Sharpe man of the match was Martin Jones, while Thirsty Yicker top tackler Sam Melia scored the try, converted by Lee Ashcroft, who claimed the coaches award. Most improved was Barry Barton, while Barry Welding was unsung hero.

Haydock under eights 24 Orrell nil

Try scorers were Jordan Gibson, top tackler Scott Hale, coaches award winner Gary Anderton, Nathan Halliwell, Kyle Braithwaite and West Lancs Steel man of the match Joel Gough. Most improved was Luke Edwards.
