RAILWAY Lostock and Preston club Frenchwood, take their place in the quarter-finals of the Terry Sayers KO Team Cup this weekend following their respective successes over Bamber Bridge and Stacksteads.
Railway, who had earlier defeated Bamber Bridge in the last league fixture the previous week, continued in the same vein to complete a great double.
Indeed, Railway won five of the six games to win by the identical league score to earn a place in the quarter final with Frenchwood this Sunday at Fishwick Ramblers green.
Frenchwood had to work much harder for their place in the last eight when they defeated Rose n' Bowl, Stacksteads, 4-2 in games. Shaun Hoyle opened the score for the Preston club 21-9 but Jim Lord replied with the same margin to level matters.
However, captain Rob Taylor, who won 21-19, gave Frenchwood a vital 2-1 lead at half time.
The second half was, to say the least, very exciting as the advantage swayed between both teams.
Geoff Alderson gave a brilliant display to win 21-7 and put Rose n' Bowl in front on the aggregate scores.
At that stage Frank Herbert led Mick Nelson 17-5, and Louis Stevenson was 10-5 up against Steve Edwards.
But a dozen ends, and some excellent bowling turned a rosy situation into disaster for Stacksteads. Nelson squeezed home 21-19 and Edwards ran out 21-16 to win a thrilling contest, neither side really deserved to lose.
Quarter-final draw for Sunday, September 19: Lostock v Fleetwood (Ramblers); Ighten Mount v St Annes (Fleetwood), Sunnybank v Alexandra (Stacksteads); Witton v Ramblers (St Annes).
The final will be on Sunday, September 26, venue to be decided.
