LEIGH ATHLETIC beat Royton Town 3-1 to reach Round 2 of the Lancashire Cup - but it was an untidy affair.
Andy Pickles headed them ahead on the stroke of half-time following good work by Scott Lewis.
Royton equalised, but Athletic - who keep managing to win despite poor form - bounced right back via John Knowles.
Pickles wrapped it up with the last kick of the match.
Tonight (7.30pm) they are at Atherton Colls in the Goalline Trophy.
Athletic Reserves beat Southport 7-0 to make it fourteen goals in two matches. On target were Edward, Lewis, MoM Brett Lilley, Wilkinson, Meyrick, West and Scott.
Athletic 3rd won 5-2 at Walshaw, Mel Perry's young side showing superior fitness to bounce back from 2-2. On target were Pennington 2, Blood, John and Shepherd. MoM Dave King.
Athletic 4th beat Moston 4-2 with goals from evergreens Ian Clough and Derek Clarke 2, plus Steve Chadwick. MoM Paul Blackburn.
Athletic U16s (now Daten Sports Youth) drew 3-3 at Morecambe, Birchall, MoM Wilcox and Bohannon on target before the home side hit back to level.
