OPENING bat Carl Hewitt blasted a terrific 102 to steer Golborne to a victory which secured second spot in the Vimto Bolton Association.

With the title already on the Walshaw mantelpiece, runners-up spot was the best for which Golborne could hope.

And a bludgeoning innings by young Hewitt ensured the points.

Aided by a quick 58 from Graham Marston, Golborne overhauled Clifton's 184-6 with four wickets and several overs to spare. Ian Morris ended 43 not out for Clifton after hitting Ian Critchley for 22 off the last over.

Spring View spoiled Walshaw's final day, winning by seven runs, a defeat meant which means the champs end two points short of Adlington's record points haul of 385.

Blackrod finished third, four points ahead of Atherton.

Darcy Lever skipper Tony Kelly topped 1,000 runs for the season with 120. But the loss of three overs to the rain meant Atherton's total of 226-6 was just out of reach as they mustered 213-8 with Steve Walsh taking 4-55.

Phil West 74 and Andy Hall 76 did the damage for Atherton.

Lostock ensured Astley & Tyldesley took the wooden spoon after a seven-wicket win.

The visitors hit 146-5 with opener Chris Bullock batting throughout for 59 with David Clare adding 42. Wayne Harper's unbeaten 86 ensured there would be no problems for Lostock.

A week earlier Atherton's dismal run of four straight losses had ended with an eight-wicket thrashing of poor A&T, who were bowled out for just 99 with father-and-son partnership Steve and Paul Walsh taking nine wickets.

Dad Steve grabbed 4-32 while his teenage son had 5-57.

In reply Atherton had no problems, Phil Wakefield unbeaten on 41 with Hall on 30.
