WORRIED residents are calling on the town hall to block moves to build a mosque and a religious school in a former mill.
A petition with almost 160 signatures has been handed to councillors calling for the application to be thrown out.
The plan is to convert Jubilee Mill in Logwood Street in the Brookhouse area of Blackburn into a madressa and mosque.
But opponents say there are already three mosques in the immediate area and a fourth would cause traffic chaos and disruption.
Residents also claim streets are already choked with parked cars.
There is concern about the levels of noise and disturbance at the weekend.
Campaigners also believe the new development could have a damaging effect on the community spirit in the area.
Planning officers say the application is likely to be turned down before it reaches committee stage.
