A NEW supermarket which will create 20 jobs is set to open in time for the Christmas rush.
The ribbon will be cut on the new 16,000 sq ft Lidl Foodstore in Hyndburn Road, Accrington, selling food and household goods, later this year.
Landowners North West Water and Arrowcroft won the right to build a store on the site five years ago after an appeal.
The current plans were altered slightly to satisfy town hall bosses and will be built next to the proposed new Accrington fire station.
Work began in June on the site, which will also include 115 car parking spaces and a new set of traffic lights.
Christopher Fox, managing director of developers Arrowcroft Northwest, said: "As well as enhancing existing retail opportunities in the town, the new Lidl store will bring job opportunities."
The German cut-price retail chain is also considering opening a store in Blackburn town centre, opposite Morrisons.
