HEALTH bosses ordered a new investigation into baby deaths as figures revealed the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale area had the worst record in England and Wales.
More than 60 babies were either stillborn or died within four weeks of birth last year - almost 16 per 1,000 births, compared with less than 9 per 1,000 nationally. In Rossendale, the death rate was 23.4 per 1,000.
